We came home this weekend. We had a great trip in Spain and Portugal. I have a great memory on Sambro. Not special the school but the place where it is situated. And the way Georgina has to live there. It impressed me very much. And when I read the book you wrote Gill, the surrounding got a complete other dimension for me. I went back in time. I can imagine you get so affected to this area. I was emotional when I had to leave Sambro. Thank you for let us be in your property. Every day I have a moment I must think of Sambro. Sorry for my bad english writing! Sincerly greetings Yvonne de Jong
The five weeks stay in your house were fantastic. We did like the atmosphere of the house and the way you rebuild the Escola Primaria very much. The garden is delightfull and we fell in love with the Alentejo. Now we are home we are missing it very much.
Wishing you all the best

Thank you for a lovely holiday at the old school. It is certainly a peaceful and tranquil place to stay, and the countryside around is fantastic. I would love to see it when covered in spring flowers. Our holiday was slightly marred by the fact that we both had stinking colds for part of the first week, but there is not much anyone could do about that. We found Ourique supermarket very good, and enjoyed visits to other parts of Portugal, easily accessible from the house. Despite the communication problems, we could not help but liking Georgina, and thoroughly admiring how hard she works in her daily life. It is just a shame that we could not understand each other. We left a list of birds which we identified during the many walks which we had from the property whilst we were there. Pete Robinson
Just a short email to say thank you for the use of Escola Primaria for the last two weeks. we had a very good rest and break and really enjoyed staying there. The size of the property and grounds was wonderful, big enough for all three of us to find our own space and not crowd each other. This was a break that all three of us needed after the traumatic times that have passed and this was an ideal place to begin in unwind and come to terms with things.
We will certainly keep Sambro in mind as and when we need another peaceful break.
Kind regards
David, Elizabeth and Tim Neill
Thank you for your help in directing us to your house. When we finally arrived, I was so pleased, that I gave Georgina a big hug. She must have thought "Who is this mad woman?" We found her delightful, even though we didn't usually understand each other. Please let her know, and thank her for all her kind gifts. We miss her, and the sheep, goats, donkey, horse and chickens. Most of the time the sheep were on the hills, and too far away for me to take photos. One morning, one of the sheep was very close, and standing very still. I approached with my camera, he looked up and appeared to smile, as if posing for the photo, but as I went to click I realised that the film had run out: It was often nearly 40degrees, so we drove south a few times for a dip in the ocean, and made it to the west coast in Zambujeira. We would liked to have visited more of the towns in the region, but it was often just too hot for walking around the towns. Even though we struggled with the language, we found the people very friendly and welcoming
